President of the Egyptian Russian University in Cairo “ERU”, Prof. Sherif Fakhry Mohamed Abdel-Nabi announced that the university board of trustees, led by Dr. Mohamed Kamal Mostafa, decided assigning the role of the university president consultant for Arts to Prof. Safia Taha Mahmoud Al-Qabbani, professor of mural painting and former Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Helwan University.  Prof. Sherief Fakhry pointed out that this step coincides with the opening of the Faculty of Fine Arts and the Faculty of Applied Arts at the university. In so doing, the university aims to establish a unique artistic environment  based on the cadres, academic competencies and financial capabilities of the two faculties in order to attract all university students  to develop their hobbies and to increase their artistic sense, which will have positive effects on their personality and behavior. This will contribute to expanding the university’s academic and cultural influence, inside the university campus and in the surrounding community.The Egyptian Russian University in Cairo “ERU” President indicated that the university has a variety of programs in the fields of arts in the faculties of Fine Arts and Applied Arts such as: drawing, painting, printing, sculpture and mosaic, photography and video, filmmaking and graphic design, crafts, fashion design, glass and interior design…etc, which makes the Egyptian Russian University a destination for students wishing to study all forms of visual and applied arts to become qualified human cadres to deal with future changes and keep track with modern developments and challenges in the labor market. It is worth noting that Dr. Safia Al-Qabbani, professor of Mural Painting and former Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Helwan University, obtained a Bachelor’s degree from the Faculty of Fine Arts “painting” in 1988 and a Master’s degree in Fine Arts “painting – mural division” in1993. The title of her thesis was “Ancient Egyptian Murals and the Benefit of some of its Symbols in Modern Egyptian Murals”. She also got her PhD from “Painting Department – Mural Section”, Helwan University in 1996. The title of the thesis was: “Preserving Mural Painting through Modern Painting Methods”.

In 1997 she worked as an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Helwan University, and then she worked as an Associate Professor in the Painting Department, Mural Section, at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Helwan University in (2002), and finally a Professor of Mural Painting, Painting Department, Faculty of Fine Arts, Helwan University (2007). She was the Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, Faculty of Fine Arts, Helwan University in (2009: 2015) and Acting Head of the Painting Department at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Helwan University in (2013). She was acting Faculty Dean, April 2015: October 2015 and Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Helwan University (2015: 2018). She is also the General Syndicate of Fine Artists, 2020- to date.
