Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering students at the Faculty of Engineering - Egyptian Russian University received support in the ITAC competition to support graduation projects.

In support of the state’s strategy to motivate youth, develop a culture of entrepreneurship, and develop graduation projects, and under the auspices of Professor Dr. Sherif Fakhry, President of the University, and Professor Dr. Alaa Al-Batsh, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. The graduation project (Design and Implementation of the Third Level of Intelligent Autonomous Driving on an Electric Car) of the Mechatronics and robotics department won the financial support in the ITIDA competition at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology – GP2024 ITAC initiative to support students’ graduation projects.
The project achieves the third level of the process of autonomous driving of the car, and moves it from a specific point to a target location by choosing the most appropriate itinerary, through the integration of location data extracted from the IMU location measurement system and location data received from the (GPS) with detailed maps of the movement area. The car can avoid obstacles that appear in its path, whether they are fixed or moving, with the help of a variety of sensors.
The project is under the supervision of Dr. Abdullah Mohammed Al-Ramsisi, the lecturer in the Department of Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering, and was implemented using an integrated set of modern technologies, including: artificial intelligence technology, computer vision, neural cell networks, deep learning algorithms, embedded systems technology, and robot operating systems technology, where navigation systems are integrated with Guidance and control systems for the car and its movement along the specified route and updating data to ensure that it does not deviate from the route.
The project went through four main phases: the design phase, the simulation phase and functionality testing, the implementation phase of the subsystems and their testing, the integration phase of all components and software of the system, and the implementation and testing of the initial sample.
It is worth noting that this project also won the EVER – 2024 competition for electric cars – the Autonomous Track, which is a local competition at the level of Egyptian universities and supported by the Academy of Scientific Research. The project successfully passed the requirements of the first level and moved to the second level in the competition.
The project is also a winner in the Valeo International Company 2024 competition for technical support for students’ graduation projects, and it participated in the Valeo Boot Camp event for the teams that won the scholarship.
It should also be noted that this project is an extension of previous graduation projects to implement an advanced set of intelligent assistive systems (ADAS) on electric cars, which included commitment to moving in a specific lane, cruise control, monitoring the driver’s performance while driving, and recording the car’s performance rates for use in analyzing accidents when needed.

The third level project for smart autonomous driving was implemented by a team of undergraduate students in the Mechatronics and Robotics Program, namely: Abdel Rahman Abdel Fattah Al Rashidi, Ibrahim Al Sayed Al Sayed, Mohsen Mohammed, Rawda Abdel Khalik, Dina Mohammed Fouad, Hossam Hassan, Mahmoud Zalat, Shorouk Wael, Aya Abdullah, Nesma Ramadan, and Maryam Abdel Rahman.
Best wishes for continued excellence for the students of the Egyptian Russian University.
