Projects of Engineering Students of the Egyptian Russian University Win ITAC-ITIDA Funding
Dr. Sherif Fakhry Mohamed, President of the Egyptian Russian University, announced that two projects of students of the Faculty of Engineering at the University won funding within the “ITAC – ITIDA” initiative competition; to support graduation projects affiliated with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, which are designed to enhance cooperation between companies and research entities. He pointed out that obtaining this funding indicates the value and importance of these projects, and helps motivate students to research and innovation and that the university is working on developing digital education skills as well as raising the capabilities of students with the aim of enabling them to benefit from modern technology and serving the growing demand for these skills in the local, regional, and global market. Also, the university pays great attention to students’ graduation projects with the aim of stimulating creativity, spreading the culture of innovation, transferring knowledge, acquiring and transferring skills among them, and localizing their entrepreneurial thought. These projects are carried out on campus, with the support of Dr. Mohamed kamal Mostafa, Chairman of the University’s Board of Trustees.
In the same context, Dr. Alaa Mohamed Al-Batsh, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the Egyptian Russian University, confirmed that students projects contribute to finding innovative solutions to challenges on the ground and help in the sustainable development of society. He explained that the graduation projects that received support from the Academy of Scientific Research are:
The “First Project”: Designing a smart electric car submitted by students of the Bachelor’s Degree in the “Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering Program”. It is concerned with transferring the traditional car with petrol engine and mechanical systems into an electric car. It provides the car with Al-Computer Vision CNN systems to control the movement of the car inside the lane, not crossing the lines, the “collision avoidance” system, detecting the objects approaching the car and making a warning signal. He noted that the project had previously won the “VALEO COMPANY” competition and received “technical and training” support.
The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the Egyptian Russian University indicated that the “Second Project “ submitted by students of the Bachelor’s Degree in the “Communications Engineering Program”, is concerned with providing the car with the “Al-Computer Vision-CNN” system, intelligent monitoring of the driver, recognizing his identity, ensuring his vigilance, monitoring the car’s driving in a natural way, and sending warning signals in cases of: “drowsiness, diabetics, or the presence of alcoholic substances in the car.
He revealed that the project provides the car with a digital recording system for the performance of all car systems, “Vehicle Data Recorder VDR-Black Box” and it is referred to in following up the car’s performance. It is also used in accident analysis.
For his part, Dr. Abdullah Mohamed Al-Ramsisi, the supervisor of the two projects at the Faculty of Engineering at the Egyptian Russian University stated that the two projects work in an “integrated system”, using a variety of sensors, integrated microcontrollers, digital interconnection networks, groups of boards and others. He added that this achievement of assembly and joint electronic connection “IOT” is a completely new and effective model in the college; For the cooperation of two work teams of undergraduate students from: “Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering Program and Communications Engineering Program.”
The supervisor of the two projects at the Faculty of Engineering at the Egyptian Russian University added that the students’ projects help to integrate their previous skills; To provide an integrated solution and build a system consisting of a variety of capabilities such as: “mechanical, control and integrated systems, digital networks, artificial intelligence, sensors, and adaptors.”, by using some sub-systems and integrating them together to build a smart car. He noted that this project is a positive contribution from the Faculty of Engineering at the Egyptian Russian University in the localization of smart electric car technology; To achieve sustainable development of society.
It is worth noting that the names of the students who won funding for the “ITAC – ITIDA” initiative to support graduation projects of the “Ministry of Communications and Information Technology” are:
