Concluding Diabetes Awareness Week under the slogan: better without sugar

As part of the university’s community role in promoting health awareness and preparing and motivating students to participate in providing community services, and coinciding with World Diabetes Day, under the auspices of Professor Sherif Fakhry, President of the University, the Egyptian Russian University organized the first awareness initiative on diabetes, in which the Faculties of Pharmacy and Dentistry at the University participated. This was done through a series of activities that took place throughout the week on and off campus in the surrounding area. The goal was to raise awareness about the impact of disease on society, early diagnosis, prevention methods, and highlight the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle to control and prevent disease. During the initiative, awareness campaigns were held inside and outside the faculty through posters, brochures and awareness videos prepared by students under the supervision of scientific departments (Clinical Pharmacy, Pharmacology & Toxicology, and Microbiology). Free blood sugar level tests were conducted for many cases, and they were taught how to use home devices. A closing symposium was also organized on disease, its causes, types, clinical and laboratory diagnostic methods, symptoms, the effect of oral and dental health on diabetes patients, and methods of prevention or delaying its onset by following a healthy diet and exercising. The symposium was given by Prof. Atef El Azab, Head of Oral Medicine, Periodontology, Oral Diagnosis and Oral Radiology at the Faculty of Dentistry – Egyptian Russian University; Prof. Marian Morjan, Professor of Clinical Pathology at the Faculty of Medicine – Al Qasr Al Aini and Regional Director of Al Mukhtabar laboratories; Dr. Nouran Youssef Saleh, Assistant Professor of Pediatric Endocrinology at the Faculty of Medicine – Ain Shams University; and Pharmacist Radwa Adel Abdelmotalib, Specialist in Therapeutic Nutrition and graduate of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the Egyptian Russian University. The awareness week activities were greatly assisted by the efforts of the Community Service and Environmental Development Committee at the Faculty of Pharmacy under the supervision of Dr. Heba Abu Stait, the “Query Pharm” team at the Faculty of Pharmacy led by Dr. Amira Gamal, and volunteers from the Faculties of Pharmacy and Dentistry at the University.
