The Egyptian Russian University conducts a checkup for dental students before dealing with patients in clinics
Dr. Sherif Fakhry Mohamed Abdel Nabi, President of the Egyptian Russian University in Badr City, announced that the university administration had contracted with one of the largest laboratories in Egypt to take samples from the students of the “Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine” at the university. He indicated that this procedure is for students of the fourth year in the college who will begin dealing with patients for the first time; this is considered part of the precautionary measures to adhere to infection control standards for patients and members of the medical team working in dental clinics that receive patients from the public for examination and giving them free-of charge treatment. In the same context, Dr. Khaled Tawfik, Dean of the Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine at the Egyptian Russian University, added that the analysis procedures for fourth year students who are qualified to deal with patients are done periodically every year since the establishment of the college. He revealed that the analysis is not limited to students only, but all the faculty members, nursing and clinic workers are examined to protect the medical team and patients from transmitting the infection between them. The Dean of the Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine at the Egyptian Russian University affirmed that the analysis and examination include detection of “C-B” viruses in addition to the antibodies and the needed booster doses of the vaccine. He added that the examination of students shall be on (6) groups according to the timetable set by the college administration and in a periodic way to check on all students completely and with the utmost accuracy. Dr. Khaled Tawfiq explained that in case of finding positive analysis among students or workers in comprehensive dental clinics, the patient will be excluded from dealing with patients until he is treated and his complete recovery from the disease is assured to be able to return again. He indicated that it has been agreed with the laboratory responsible for examining students and dental clinic staff, that the sampling should be done on the “university campus”; so that students will not be distracted from their studies and financial burden and hardship will be reduced on them. In another context, Dr. Amani Amer, Director of Clinics and Infection Control at the College of Oral and Dental Medicine, indicated that all participants were trained in “comprehensive oral and dental clinics” in the college before working on infection control procedures and prevention methods for medical staff, with reliance on the instructions issued by The Faculty Infection Control Department as a reference for prevention measures to maintain medical staff and patients attending the clinics, adding that the university administration provides all required support to “dental clinics” so that good educational and medical service for patients to the public free of charge can be provided.
